Our First Date
July 22, 2001
Jeff and Jill decided to go on their first date just one day after they met. They were so sure about it that they just couldn’t wait to see each other again. Jeff drove to Kalamazoo that Saturday. It was raining so hard that day, harder than it had rained in some time. They had a whole day planned out and rain was not a part of it.
Jeff arrived at Jill’s and knocked on the door. Jill opened the door and they hugged for such a long time. If you ask them though, it wasn’t long enough! It was still raining so they decided to listen to some music and talk. They listened to some rare Dave Matthews Band (shocking!) recordings as well as some other groups. The great thing about that is that Jill listened to a lot of bands that Jeff had never heard of and vice-versa. It was a great opportunity to hear music the other hadn’t heard. They discovered that they were at the same DMB concert the previous summer, with over 40,000 other people!
Finally, the rain stopped and the most amazing colors shot out of the sky. The sun was shining a brilliant yellow-orange color. It was like a sign, telling us to go have some fun! They had decided the previous night that they would go golfing, so they went. It wasn’t a pretty start for Jeff and it didn’t get much better. It was a very hot day, very humid. They had a great time though, and Jill’s day improved when she beat Jeff, something that still happens to this day!
After golf, they got cleaned up and hung around Jill’s apartment for a while longer. Jill cooked dinner, her famous chicken and broccoli delight, still one of Jeff’s favorites! They listened to some more music and watched a movie and then Jeff prepared to go home. It was hard to say goodbye, neither of them wanted to leave. They just wanted the entire night to go on and on and never end.
