Jeff Is Entering A Talent Contest At Work!

So, some of you know that I work at Accident Fund Insurance Company of America. In the IS department. In a cube. Some of you may also know that I love working there!

They are having a talent competition over the course of several weeks. It will involve eliminations and a possible live performance at an all-employee meeting (700+ people!). Did I mention a lot of coin to the winner?

Not wanting to be out-done by my talented co-workers, Jill had the idea of contacting our good friend Jon Herrmann (DJ, Bassist, Musician, Producer, Engineer and friend extraordinaire) to see if he would be interested in letting me film the video in his amazing recording studio (Epiphany Sound Productions) and he said yes! So, without further ado, here is my entry.

Thanks Jon! You completely rock and I swear you made my drums the best I've ever heard them sound!

I don't believe that I've ever mentioned this about my cousin Nick. He's a very talented film maker and has an unstoppable imagination. Last year, during Season 2 of The Office, NBC and YouTube had a contest that challenged people to create or recreate the 30-second intro to the show. Hundreds of Thousands of people entered the contest, including Nick. Turns out his submission won 7th place overall and is featured on The Office: Season 3 DVD! Here is his "clay take" on the office intro.

Jill,

It's hard to believe that we've been together for 7 years and married for 5. It seems like just yesterday that I saw you at the coffee shop in East Lansing for the first time. I knew I had to talk to you. I had no idea that you would complete my life the way you have however.

You have been my best friend and have made me feel completely comfortable in talking to you about anything that is on my mind and I love you for that.

Now we have a beautiful baby girl. You have given me the greatest gift a man could ever ask for, and a gift that I have always dreamed about. You have made my dream of Fatherhood come to life and I am so happy that I can share that with you.

Jill, thank you for making me happy, being an amazing wife and an amazing mother. Your love fills my heart in ways that are difficult to put into words.

RIP LeRoi Moore

Many of you know that Jill and I are huge fans of the Dave Matthews Band. We even planned our honeymoon around a concert. We rented a car and drove down the East Coast and stopped in New Jersey for a DMB concert two days after our wedding day and then proceeded to Charlottesville, Virginia where we spent a whole day visiting some of the places that were made famous by DMB and it's members, including Miller's, the bar Dave Matthews worked at and met the other founding members of DMB, LeRoi Moore and Carter Beauford.

I'm sad to say that LeRoi has passed away at the young age of 46 from complications stemming from an ATV accident in June. We will miss him dearly.

"It was in 1991 when Dave Matthews approached Leroi Moore and Carter Beauford and asked them about the possibility of joining the band. Both Roi and Carter were well known around the Charlottesville area for playing in local fusion and jazz bands through the 1980s. Roi carried the reputation as a saxophone virtuoso by perfecting his style throughout the entire saxophone family.

Roi first picked up an Alto Saxophone in 1974, while in Junior High School. He quickly learned the Baritone Sax, and then moved on to the Tenor Saxophone. During his brief time at James Madison University, Roi completed the saxophone family by learning the Soprano Saxophone.

Roi is mainly recalled as being the �shy� one by DMB fans, but nothing could be further from the truth. Moore spoke to the crowd during early shows (11.7.92 for example). For the first 4 years of the band he essentially played a �lead Saxophone�, taking on the solos that most bands would reserve for a lead guitarist.

What many fans don�t know is that Moore made friends throughout the DMB community. Despite the fact that he wore shades during DMB shows, he was very approachable. It wasn�t unknown for Roi to befriend a DMB fan, and then give that person his phone number or email address.

He will be missed by the entire DMB community for his epic jams, great rhythm, and laid back style. There are just too many songs to even mention that will never, ever, be the same.

Natalie is crawling!!! We really thought that she would go right to walking since she has shown so much interest in it. She loves to walk around the house while we hold her hands for support. It's funny because she gets so excited about being able to move around that she starts panting like a dog! It's the cutest thing in the world.

Jeff Returns To The Drums!

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to "reunite" with a band I had played with off and on for several years, Divespire. Two of the other guys in the band also played in Studiotone and this was considered the "side project". Really just a chance to play some really great tunes that are a lot of fun to play.

Anyway, I hadn't even picked up drumsticks since December. It's hard to find time to practice with a little one in the house! We had a great time though and Natalie was able to come along and see her Daddy play drums for the first time. She even danced in her stroller!

Here is a video of the song "Ride With Me" from that concert. I had just learned this song a few days prior and it is definitely my favorite song in the Divespire catalog. Enjoy!
